| Description de l'offre | The Centre de Recherche Public - Gabriel Lippmann, a public establishment for applied scientific research and technology transfer, has an opening on a temporary contract basis for its department "Science and Analysis of Materials" (SAM) that focuses in the following fields: characterization of materials, surface treatment and thin films, instrumental developments, nanotechnologies and nanomaterials, for a
PhD thesis position (m/f) Topic: Development of new Al-Ti-Ta-N-based nanocomposite coatings
Mission:
Although Ti-Al-N coatings are widely used in industry, their good wear resistance at high temperature is not sufficient for specific applications like dry high speed machining of composite materials. Different alloying elements, such as tantalum or silicon, were then added to improve wear and oxidation resistance at high temperature of such coatings. In order to get better wear and oxidation properties at high temperature (>850°C), we propose an original approach consisting in the doping by different elements of Al-Ti-Ta-N-based nanocomposite coatings. The doctoral training will involve three different areas namely coating processing, material characterisation and tribology. The new category of nanocomposite coatings will be produced by magnetron sputtering. Their characterization in their initial, oxidized and worn states will be carried out using a combination of different analytical techniques (SIMS, Atom Probe, TEM, XPS, XRD, Auger, GDOES).
Profile:
- Master degree in sciences, preferably in physics, chemistry, materials or surface sciences, - Develop good skills in the fields of experimental investigations and of analytical techniques, - Interaction with other international laboratories (mainly the University of Leoben, Austria), - Fluency in English (spoken and written) is a must, - motivated and working independently, structured and self-responsible in a young and diversified research department.
