Online Spellchecker for Luxembourgish

Usage Instructions

Requirements

If you want to use this version of our spellchecker, your browser must be JavaScript enabled. Moreover, this version requires Internet Explorer 5.x (Windows or Mac).

Input of Text to be Checked

Type or copy/paste the text to be checked in the appropriate text field on the left. Then, click on the button "Check the Text".

Result of the Spellchecking

After your click on the "Check Text" button, your browser will display a new page with, either the results of the spellchecking, or an error message.

In the first case, there was no problem and you will see your original text spellchecked. The words that are currently not in our dictionary will be displayed in red whereas those that are will be displayed in black. Move the cursor over a red word and the browser will present you a list of alternatives. You may click on any of the items of the popup menu. More precisely, you may:

  • Ignore the suggestions of the spellchecker. If you choose to ignore the suggestions of the spellchecker, the word´s color changes to green and it is considered to be correctly spelled (only this specific occurrence of the word on this specific web page). You might envisage to select this item if you are sure that a word is correctly spelled but the spellchecker did not find it in its dictionary.
  • Cancel the suggestions of the spellchecker. This simply closes the popup menu and does not have any effect on the word´s status.
  • Select a suggestion of the spellchecker. If you choose to select a suggestion of the spellchecker, the red word is replaced by the selected alternative. The new word is displayed in green and is, of course, considered to be correctly spelled.

In the last case, our spellchecker server probably is not running. Please don´t forget that CORTINA is an ongoing project and that we are continually improving the spellchecker (hopefully). Try the demonstrator again later.

Usage Tips

As soon as the result page is available, our spellchecker has done its part of the job. All the processing concerning the selection or ignoring of spellchecker suggestions is done by the browser, which executes JavaScript routines generated by our spellchecker server. Therefore, if a lot words in your text are not recognized by the spellchecker, your browser might be overloaded by the generated JavaScript code (this depends, of course, a lot on your actual hard- and software configuration). In this case, please return to the submission form, reduce the amount of text you submit to the spellchecker and try to check again.

Moreover, do not forget, as mentioned above, that CORTINA is an ongoing project. Thus, our dictionary is still limited to ±100,000 words).
